A date I just couldn’t be bothered with...

I actually just remembered another date I went on in the past. This is a much shorter story/confession than WBB

I was about 20 years old so I cant actually remember where it is we met but I do remember arranging to meet at Marble Arch for the date.

Marble Arch is a funny place to meet there is not much around there apart from the park but it was his choice so I turned up.

I was in a pretty summer dress and shades but he……well he arrived in a boiler suit very much like the picture above.

I remember seeing him walk towards me and feeling a little embarrassed I immediately said "do you work in the carwash?"
"no" he said "why do you ask that?"
"no reason" I lied

He had no plan as to where we were going so we were just walking around the are. I didn’t really wanna be seen with him so I suggested that we get some food.

He was pretty cool with that and as we walked past a Pizza place he suggested that we go in there.
I wasn’t interested in him, I knew I wasn’t just the way he talked and I could tell he would be one of those clingy boyfriends who after a while would want you to wipe their bottom so conversation was pretty dry but all of a sudden at some point in the date he reached his hand over the table and put it on top of mine and told me how beautiful he found me and how I was the woman for him

I looked down and saw these long crusty nails all brown and different cracked shapes YUCK
Now WBB had long fingernails I actually forgot to put that but these...well they were just disgusting!

I quickly pulled my hand back saying "boys shouldn’t have long nails" and he looked back at me quite hurt but I know I couldn’t be with a man with those nails.

At the end of the meal the bill came and he looked at me and I looked at him and we both looked at each other for about 10 mins then he said

"do you have any money?"
"huh?" I said?
"can you pay?" he said
"no hun" I lied "I don’t have anything on me
"what about cards?" he said

I told him I would have a look but I needed the bathroom
I know this is really cruel but I just couldn’t be bothered and I left…

I feel quite guilty about that so if by any chance you are reading boiler suit guy…I'm sorry…

Readers...lurkers those are two of my worst dates...if you have had a bad date give me a shout and I will interview you on my blog...

Angel and the WBB

There must have been quite a few dates on Valentines eve, some lovely and some really bad so I sat here thinking about the worst date I have ever been on and you know I like to share…Its not as bad as Clem Keith but it just wasn’t fun at all.

I'm going to call him WBB (wannabe bad boy) and he and I met in a club around 2005 I think. Now before I continue I just want to tell all the people that rolled their eyes that you actually can meet people in a club. My friend met her husband (note: husband) in a club and they have been together around eight or so years and have children! I also met an ex in a club and was with him for four years.

I don’t believe that it’s the right or wrong place to meet a person. I believe that you meet who you are supposed to when you are supposed to. The location doesn’t really play a part.

Obviously there are a couple of problems when you do meet in the club, the first being trying to hold a conversation over the music. I remember there was another guy I met and I thought he said he was a Trainer and he thought I said I was in PR. In fact he was a Trader and I was a PA. Our date was really interesting, I felt quite puzzled when he asked me about press releases and the different type of people I meet in my job. He however felt quite excited and the date was going well when I asked him to work on my body lol.

The second problem with meeting in a club is, that sexy thing that you see in the dark corner of the club might not be what appears in the daylight and that’s what happened when I met WWB.

In the club I had seen this really beautiful guy, who was well dressed and friendly, I had established that he was 29 years old and a hair technician we exchanged numbers and agreed to meet in Leicester square about a week later.

So at 8.15pm I stood there waiting and I called him slightly annoyed as we said 8pm He arrived and gave me a big smile but the smart, well dressed guy who I saw in the club was not what was standing in front of me……how could I have missed the gold teeth? Now I'm not just talking about one or two, there was a lot of gold and silver…I needed shades…my head was hurting and the way he was dressed…I'm sure it wasn’t that cold and he had on one huge jacket with a hat pulled right down I could hardly see him. He looked like a hood rat or one of those gang members we keep seeing on the news. He looked scary!

We stood around chatting for a minute and I said trying to make light of the situation
Me – So you were saying you were a hair technician? What is it? Do you work in a hospital?’
WBB – erm…no…not really
ME – ok so a clinic? Do you help people with baldness or something?
WBB – no…it’s more like I cut peoples hair, like a Barber
ME – oh like a Baber?
WBB - Well yeah I am actually a barber
ME – oooooooooooooooh (moving on quickly) so where are we going?
WBB – I haven’t thought of anywhere, you choose
ME – (thinking of his pocket) lets to go China Town
WBB – yeah I’ve never been to a restaurant before
ME – What? (Incredulous) you have never been to a restaurant?
WBB – well yeah….what I mean is, not like one that you eat in.

I thought to myself are there any other types?

China Town

I wasn’t really looking forward to it but I was being polite. As we walked along he started to reveal what type of man he was, the not serious type. He slept until 1pm every day and then went clubbing each night at 29 years old anyone with that routine cannot be serious about anything….well unless they are a big time club promoter…and he unfortunately he wasn’t.

He was still talking about his school days, how he failed all his exams, didn’t go onto further education, in fact hates 'the system' He wanted to be a professional footballer, and though he could do it, but didn’t go to training and basically wasn’t serious about that either so ended up being a barber.

I noted how the general members of the public were looking at him quite scared and when we arrived at the restaurant I really felt that they thought they were about to get robbed even I zipped up my handbag. He also kept going on about who he knew from which gang, this was scary and not impressive. Also the thought of being accidentally shot in some gang war crossfire didn’t appeal.

Note to all the guys that think women want a bad boy…we don’t, we need professionals with jobs.

It was true he had obviously not spent any time eating out since he wore his ‘Hood Rat Hat’ thought the meal, got the waiters attention by shouts like Oy, Yo and Ey, didn’t use his napkin (of course) and when it was time for the bill he grumbled that £20 ($28) was a bit expensive. I was amazed as I had picked the cheapest place because I was trying to save his pocket! The bill was £19.50 and he took his 50p change (no tip??)

To give you a true feel of this guy, here are some of his top quotes of the night

When describing his school he said
"My teachers thought I would be in prison by now but I sure proved them wrong"

When walking to the restaurant he took the liberty of pointing out
"Look that is where my best friend got stabbed and killed"
"and this is where Daddy P got shot"

When talking about his upbringing he said
"I'm glad my father wasn’t around when I was growing up, I would have had to do something with my life, like…..well….like…. go to school"

When talking about his dating life he said
"I have never been on a date most of the girls I know just come around my house"

When talking about me he said
"No one I know talks like you, you pronounce all your words"

When talking about the rich he said
"there are people out there that earn big money like…. £25k!”

I was glad that he didn’t want to know anything about me apart from how I can afford to buy my own house & car? I was looking forward to getting this over quickly and going home.

After the meal which he had spent talking about himself and his failed life he said "I have somewhere really special to take you"

I wasn’t enthusiastic I wanted to get away far away and as quick as possible but curiosity got the better of me …perhaps movies, ice cream…a bar …something…. No

Trocodero
For those of you that don’t know Trocodero is an amusement arcade and I think it has a cinema and a bowling alley inside.

"Are we going bowling?" I asked surprised

"No" he replied angrily screwing up his face "I have already spent £20 do you think I'm made of money? Let’s play on some of the machines"

Says it all doesn’t it…..

By the way his email address was [name]2gunshots@hotmail.com

Angel’s Valentines

I felt like I was in a romance movie…and it went something like this….

On Friday night before bed we spoke
"Would you mind coming to my place for about six thirty?" he smiled
"Of course" I agreed "what’s the plan?" he laughed and told me it was a surprise
"but what should I wear?" I asked hoping to get more information
"Whatever you feel good in" he replied

As we put down the phone I giggled and really wondered what he had in mind. I slept well thinking about the day.

On Saturday night I arrived at his place pretty excited, I had done my hair and was wearing a new dress with new underwear, stockings, heels and perfume. Although I was dressed up I had hoped that we were going to stay in as we can go to restaurants any time of the year and it would be nice to be in.

He met me from my car, kissed me slowly and then walked me in, taking my coat and bag and kissing me again.

As I walked into the room tears sprang in my eyes (I don’t know why I get quite emotional at times) he had gone to soooooo much effort.

He had dimmed the lights and placed the dining table in the centre of the room. It was decorated ready for dinner and he had added beautiful candles and pebbles. Also on the table was an enormous bunch of flowers, a card and two packages wrapped in heart paper and a chocolate bunny.

I couldn’t speak! In all my life no one has ever gone to so much trouble for me.

He sat me down and I smelt the flowers then I opened everything…the card was stunning and he had written a poem inside! The first package was quite amusing we had read each others mind, he had framed a photo of us both and that’s the gift that I gave him lol. The second I was in awe, he had used a photo that I took of a day we spent in the park and written a poem over it and then got this made up into a large frame. I won’t type the poem but I will say that the last line said

“My timeless sunshine…Angel”

WOW

“I love it babe” I said hugging him tightly “I love you” I said straight after

“I love you too” he replied and that’s when it felt like it couldn’t be real.

We talked for a while and then he left me putting his apron on to go and finish cooking. I sat sipping wine and listening to Jazz music.

Dinner was amazing, he had cooked me Garlic Bread, followed by this lamb dish and roasted vegetables which he had seasoned with some beautiful herbs and then chocolate cheesecake for dessert. He was like Master chef!

I felt really beautiful and special just like the time of our first date.

After we relaxed a while I gave him a little peep of my underwear and he excitedly said “WOW and I thought I already had dessert” or something like that and I'm sure you can guess how the night ended.

But wait…there is more..... In the morning he booked a trip to Antigua for us both I am SO excited we are going in June so we get to continue this romance hand in hand on the beach…

So that was my Valentines I know that I am lucky and blessed to have such a lovely guy in my life and I remain eternally grateful to whatever forces that brought him to me. :)

They are trying to tell me that there is no God.

The snow has gone, well from London anyway. Everything is back to normal although It hasn’t really warmed up its just turned into rain. Despite that, I had a really nice weekend. On Friday I went to a girly sleepover :) Nine of us big woman all went around a friends house to eat, laugh, talk (about men) watch movies and play games oh it was fun. I'm sitting here checking facebook regularly since I'm scared that photos in my nightwear acting foolish might appear. You know I'm going to until myself quick! Lol

On Saturday eve and Sunday I was chilling with Mr Special, because it was cold I don’t think either of us felt like doing much so we stayed in, I cooked and we, well…did what couples do it was….hmmm..nice.

Anyway I wanted to tell you about these adverts I keep seeing all over the place. First of all I saw them on the tube and the one I saw said "its nice enough to see a beautiful garden without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it, there is probably no God now stop worrying and enjoy your life"

I did a double take when I first saw it and I was offended reading it. I had two thoughts 1) How could an advert that upsets so many different people be allowed? And 2) Why? What is the point of this ad?

I'm not the worlds greatest religious fanatic, I hardly ever go to church even though my grandmother is a Pastor! However I do believe in God and I felt that these adverts are out of order. I don’t know what's worse, those people that spend all their life trying to convert you to what they want you to be (big sigh) or this!

So I had a look into it. They spent £140,000 ($207,000) on this national campaign and it has been backed by a number of leading atheists and secularists, including Richard Dawkins the guy who wrote a book called 'The God Delusion' and it all started to fit into place. My why question got answered at least.

I also heard about this bus driver in Southampton who refused to drive the busses that have this advert on and I have to say hats of to him for taking a stand. (Christian refuses to drive bus) I have a feeling that although the snow is leaving there is a storm brewing over these adverts and people are starting to complain about them. After finding out all about it I saw the advert again on the tube. This time various people had scribbled over it someone had written 'Praise Allah' and someone else had said 'Hail Jesus most high' someone else had scribbled out the bit that says No God and written 'The devil is amongst us' I just started laughing out loud.

Believing in God brings hope for so many, gives people morals and guidance why would you want to take that away? Some people find fulfilment and happiness in their faith cant we just let them get on with it? What right does anyone have to tell you what to or what not to believe in? What do you believe? I feel that If you take away the hope from people in a world that is so messed up already what do they have left? My dad once told me that 'everyone has got to have a little hope' and that stuck with me forever.

What would you do with a Snow Day?

Yesterday, London was hit by the worst snowfall for 18 years and came to a complete standstill. £48 million ($69 million) was lost in revenues as offices shut. Many employees couldn’t get to work or had to stay home with their children because all the schools closed. The entire bus network was closed down as even though they did grit the main roads, they didn’t grit any side roads so the busses couldn’t get out of the depots and slipped down the side streets. The tube network was brought to a standstill with only two lines running, the rest were mostly suspended or severely delayed. So no bus, limited tube and if you thought about driving you must have been crazy, if your car wasn’t snowed in the un-gritted roads were treacherous, you couldn’t get anywhere, even the airports shut with one plane even sliding off the runway. Most people saw it as a disaster however I have to admit I really don’t think it was.

Being forced not to work meant people had to slow down and live a little. Anywhere there was a hill people who never usually interact were sledging or even skiing down it on whatever they could find. The parks were full of people!

I heard of Brizillian & African tourists seeing snow for the first time. If you were trying to travel and were sitting for ages because you were slowed down you had the time for pleasantries or even chit chat, suddenly London became a very friendly place. Many workaholics were defeated as even though most of them could work from home when they looked out the window and saw the world having fun they put away the laptop and went out to live their lives. It was so bad the Mayor came on TV asking us to not use the day for a mass skive that we should all try and go to work. Try telling that to the mother that doesn’t know her baby anymore as it is always with the nanny, or the father who is having a difficult time with his son and now has time to build a snowman with him in the backyard. What would you give for an extra day off? For those that didn’t venture out this was a day to catch up on some things you wanted to do at home, to read that book they had been planning to read for ages, to paint the hall that has had the paint sitting there for months now or just catch up on some much needed rest. If you were suddenly forced to stay at home for the day what would you do? Perhaps there will be a baby boom around November time. Hahaha!

Me – well I didn’t get a chance to skive off but I still enjoyed my day.
Id left my gloves around at Mr Special’s on Sunday and this wasn’t the day to not have gloves however when I got up I didn’t watch any news or TV, I just looked outside, wrapped up warm and got my wellies on and went out to work.

I decided to slow walk to the station and enjoy the snow it was beautiful, kept having to alternate the hand that was holding the umbrella so that my hands didn’t freeze but I just took my time enjoying the stillness and the softness of the morning. Just as well I walked, can you imagine if I had waited for the bus? When I got to the station my tube line was running but with delays.

At work my boss was impressed to see me (brownie points) he had managed to get in and he lives way outside London so he figured most people should be in. They weren’t!
Then something sweet happened at around 11.30 Mr Special arrived with the gloves, he didn’t want me to get cold so dropped them off at my work. I have to say that my workplace is really out of his way and must have taken him ages with the tubes the way they were but he thought of me that made my day! He had been sent home from work (lucky man) as the weather was getting worse and he seemed quite concerned about how I would get home.

When he left he said ‘leave early baby, and any problems come straight to mine ok?’ He is a darling isn’t he?

I left work slightly early had no problems getting home. The snow was worse on the way back and having to walk wasn’t great so when I got home in the warm I thought about all the people who are suffering because of the economy at the moment and are having to choose weather to heat or eat in their homes. I prayed that they and the homeless were safe and warm.

When I looked outside over my balcony and saw the row of snowmen on the grass. It made me smile.

So that question again, if you were forced to stay home for the day and not work, what would you do with it?
ps - there is more bad weather to come...watch this space..
