Thoughts for Thursday....

This week at work we were all called into an emergency meeting, the whole floor was summoned.

One of the guys that has worked there for years, someone that we all know well died. He was away in Australia on business and found in his hotel room. He leaves behind his wife and two young children ages 2 and 6. He wasnt old at all.

The reaction afterwards was really upsetting, many were devastated it was so surreal. Some had to go home it was not good.

In my opinion this guy gave his life to our company and he worked really hard. He also died working for our company. The whole thing makes me take a step back and revaluate my life.

I thought of all the hours I have been working lately and the stress that I felt and wondered if I too was stressing myself into an early grave. If all I'm doing is working what will be left in the end? Will that be me alone in my hotel room gasping for my last breath?

Do you work to live or live to work?

When you pass what you leave behind? What differences have you made to the world? How will you remembered?

Are you enjoying your life? Are you taking care of your health?

Just some things to think about today…..

Hey lady. Wow, this is sad and eye-opening. I can relate to working way to hard for little reward. It's changeable so I'm working on dedicating the energy to things that will bring me real happiness and peace. Much love!

Omg...this is too sad...may he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I learnt a long time that I didn't love my job so I use it as a means to enjoy life outside work... To many people live for work but we just shouldnt...

Yes, I know exactly what you mean because I have also noticed far too many people here in Barbados dying way too young (like in their 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's), much of the time from stress-induced illnesses.

It does cause you to take stock of your own life - my focus now is on staying healthy and happy, supporting my family and friends and enjoying the time I have left with them, building meaningful relationships and contributing to the world in a positive and successful way.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day if you stress yourself out at work to the point of illness or, heaven forbid, death, when the grieving has passed the workplace and your job is going to continue on without you.

This is very unfortunate. I feel for his family and friends that he left behind.

One thing that this recession has taught all of us is that these companies have no loyalty to you. At the end of the day, you're a number. If you don't own the company, we're all expendable. And no job is worth dying for.

Yeah I think about all the work a holics really should reflect on their lives and think about what part of their life they are missing out on.

Death does make you reflect. I recently found out two childhood friends of mine were killed - on the block we grew up on. Our paths went in different directions in high school, but he was a good guy back then.

Death just makes you think...what if this or what if that. RIP to your co-worker/friend

@ Shubby Doo, That’s brilliant that you use your job to enjoy life outside work…ok working on it!

@ Amanda, although it was a bad thing I also forced me to look at my own life and work and I realise its just not worth it.
