Guilty….Or Not, I get to decide.

I got a lot of hate emails regarding my Jagged Edge Post, Yes very sad I know...I couldn’t stop laughing, people kept telling me they were going to kill me and all sorts, I guess there are die hard fans out there that no one knew about. One comment said “Who are you to judge?”

Well actually…from tomorrow I am on Jury Service. I have been called up for a minimum of two weeks. So haters (I’m sticking my tongue out!)  I will get the chance to judge. Obviously not on that particular subject (lol) but as soon as I am sworn in I get to listen to some murder or fraud trail and decide if I find the person guilty or not.

I’m pretty daunted by the whole thing and I’m sitting here thinking about it and what it will be. I really don’t want any case involving children I don’t want to be traumatised. I also don’t wanna be on any case that involves me having to stay in a hotel away from Mr Special for my own protection. That would stink.

The only good things are the hours are 10-4 so really short days, I get the two weeks off from work and they pay all my inconvenience costs as well as lunch every day. So those things are ok.

So have any of you ever been on a Jury?

Happy today....

Hey everyone, I hope you are all ok and glad you liked my picture of me as a little one. It was nice to hear what you guys did as children.

Anyway I write with joy today. Mr Special and I are (hopefully) be going to move in together before the end of the year!! Despite some negative opinions, I am so excited about it. People are worried we haven't been together long enough, or that if we move in together we will never get married and lots of things like that but to be honest I don't care. I know him, I love him and I'm happy if it's not meant to be at least let me enjoy this happiness we have had such a great journey.

His name is Andrew he is a year older than me, we met in 2007 on a Salsa boat cruise and became great friends. (hmmm perhaps I should write a post single ladies learn salsa lol). However, It was only in September 2008 that we decided to get together and I have loved every single moment. He has become my best friend and my supporter, he is of the only people in this world that I have full respect for. He has some amazing qualities such as integrity, commitment, intelligence, strength and courage. He is thoughtful, romantic and sexy, he has a great sense of humour and he is a fantastic cook. He really takes care of me and I couldn't ask for more only that I may be all those things to him. He makes sense of the world for me.

Win a Trip to Australia, Challenge II Response

Well as you know I have to complete six challenges to win four tickets to Sydney Australia two for me and two for one of you. (Read More Here)

The second challenge was to create an outfit that screams 'I'm all about Sydney'. Hand-stitched, elegantly sketched or charity-shop purchased, as long as it stays clear of the Crocodile Dundee 'cork-hung hat', it was up to me.

So here is the elegant sketch in case you were wondering the picture is me (Well the slim me)

My outfit is catwalk ready!!!

Angel wears a Sydney Opera House inspired bonnet, great for stylish nights out but also as in this picture, it can be worn on casual days as well. To go with the hat she put on her bondi beach themed t-shirt and her Sydney Harbour bridge skirt which you can wear anywhere. Although it would be a bit hard to get in and out of rooms it does let the air in on hot days. The shoes straps are real shells (people like shells in Sydney) and no heels so that she can roam around for hours.

What do you think??

I told the watch man what time it was!

When Mr Special needed the strap on his watch fixed, I recommended a place near where I work. Less than two weeks later it broke again so being the dutiful girlfriend that I am, I offered to get it fixed again.

I popped up to the place on Tuesday lunchtime and when I got to the counter I was faced with this sullen looking man, the type of guy that just hates his job. I guess hundreds of years working in the watch fixing place had done him in. A customer was just leaving and she brushed past me angrily...I wonder why?

I smiled and handed him the watch and started to say “two weeks ago my boyfriend….
I didn’t even get to finish the sentence, he snatched the watch from me and the broken piece and said “I know, I know, come back in twenty minutes” I wanted to explain that the pin which they fitted, the one that attaches the strap to the watch was too small and too skinny but the guy wouldn’t let me get a word in.
“It’s the pin, it’s…..” I tried to say something but again he interrupted “No come back later” he snapped.

So I walked off and heard him say to his colleague “bloody customers, you would think they knew how to fix watches”

I was vexed! What a horrible exchange.

I went around shopping for a while and then when I returned I asked him for the watch, he almost slammed it into my hands. I pulled it to test it had been fixed properly, it had not, it broke right there and then and out fell the old pin, instead of a new one.

I was NOT impressed and now I had a chance to tell the watch man exactly what time it was (lol)

Here goes

Angel - So you wouldn’t even let me talk or explain the problem, you were too busy running your mouth and now it’s not even fixed

Watch guy (bright red) - well Madame..

Angel – NO honey, it’s my turn to speak, what is your name?

Watch guy - what do you need my name for?

Angel - So when I write to head office and complain about you they will know who I'm talking about

Watch guy – erm…erm….erm….we don’t need to do that, let me see if I can fix it again, if you come back in twenty minutes…

Angel – oh hell no darling…I'm not coming back, you are going to fix it right now.

Watch guy – but, we have loads of watches to fix before yours

Angel (laughing) – Not my problem, you should have listened and fixed it properly in the first place and you better get on with it as I have to be somewhere shortly this is what needs to be done.

Then I went on to explain properly and he fixed it. This was a case where the customer was right!

Anyway later on I got to thinking about the vicious cycle that guy is in. He has a terrible attitude and hates his job you can just tell. He thinks all the customers are horrible and because they respond to his attitude his thoughts become his reality and they really are. This means that every day is a bad day for him and every time he speaks to a customer something bad happens. If he were to just change his mindset and shift his attitude and be nice to people I'm sure he would have a better time in life.

I have known many people that are always angry and always complaining and they think their life is awful , but life is what you make it and if you go around with a bad attitude and a narrow way of thinking I'm sorry but you are just bringing it on yourself…Karma baby!

That concludes Angel’s wisdom for the day!

You’re Beautiful, Woman!

I should have said this early o’clock but I’m saying it now. When I keep saying how busy I am that is because as well as work and my business I’m also doing an event.

It’s called You’re Beautiful, Woman and I’m working with a team of six to organise it. We did it last year and it was successful so we are trying it again this year.

It’s in London on the 15th August and it’s a day were we focus on black women’s beauty inside and out. It came about as we wanted to make sista’s feel good and it has been very well received. There are seminars, workshops, beauty treatments, networking sessions and even a market hall were people can buy things. Tickets are only £5 and we even give out goodie bags, freebies and prizes!

My role in the team is to co-ordinate the speakers and set up the programme for the seminars I spoke last year my talk was on feet (since I run a shoe company) so instead of speaking this year I have decided to organise new speakers.

Look this is me speaking last year!

So far it’s going well. I have a programme which includes personal styling, nutrition, natural hair care and skincare, I also have a workshop going on by a male dating coach called ‘Ladies I can find you that man’ or something like that.

For press we have contacted a few publications and we also have a couple of radio show slots coming out but if you can help spread the word I would be thankful.

Obviously I would love to see you there….so London Sistas are you coming down???

The website is here where you can find out more info and of course get a ticket.

The feeling of payback is sweet!

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while but keep getting sidetracked. Today I decided that you all need to hear about it.

About a year ago, I noticed that there was a sista living on my street who looked around my age. In London none of your friends even live in the same borough and you have to travel to meet anyone let alone in the same street so I was quite pleased to see her.

We have the same routine so each morning we walk to the same stop, get on the same bus, go on the same tube and travel to work. I presume she works at Harrods as she often wears the fleece and no one, unless you worked there, would wear that normally.

So due to the fact that we see each other almost every day the natural thing would be to say hi, how you are you?

1st Encounter
My opportunity came in the supermarket one Saturday morning; I was just leaving and saw her in the queue for a taxi. So I walked over and smiled

“Hi” I said “are you waiting for a taxi?”

The girl looked me up and down, didn’t smile or anything, just gave me one mean look and said nothing so I continued quite nervously

“It’s just that…..well…I drive….so I thought I……”

I stopped there because so far she had given me no response just a nasty look on her face like she smelt something bad. Then I figured that perhaps she didn’t have a clue who I was! So I said “We live on the same street”

“Yeah I know” she spat

So I then rather sheepishly said “oh” and half smiled and walked off. I felt like a real idiot.

After this I saw her in the mornings as usual but it was only then I noticed that she was one of those people that just walk around with an angry look on their face and is probably just mad at life in general.

2nd Encounter
I guess we must have the same sort of shopping times as about a month or two later I saw her in the supermarket again. I was afraid as she came towards me with a massive smile on her face. Since the time I have been seeing her, this was the first smile I have ever seen.

“Hi” she said really nicely “did you bring your car today?”

Now I'm standing there thinking ‘WTF? This girl never ever acknowledges me and now she wants a lift home? She never ever speaks to me and when I tried to speak to her……..no way she can forget it!’

I smiled back at her and said “sorry love I'm not going straight back home today (lie) so I can’t give you a lift”

She looked really unimpressed and just walked off.

I did feel a bit bad though as when I drove past I saw her walking home with bags in her hands. I guess the credit crunch meant that taxis were off the menu lol

Final Encounter
After that, things had been pretty much the same between her and I, we had just decided to ignore each other.

Anyway, I think it was the 29th or the 30th December I was running a little late and as I was walking down the street the bus came so I had to run for it.

She was already at the bus stop and when the bus came she took one look at me, saw me running and got on the bus anyway and the bus drove off.

I WAS LIVID! She knows I get that bus, she could have made that bus wait, she could have put one leg in or spoke to the driver or something I was around four strides away but she didn’t.
I was late for work and I can’t tell you all the bad things I was thinking about this girl however the feeling of payback is sweet!

That night London was so cold -3 or something I remember even the radio presenters were going on about how cold things were, it was dark and I was on my way home when I walked past her at the entrance to my road. I could quite clearly see that she had been shopping again but this time all her bags had split open, her shopping was rolled around on the floor and she was standing there, cold and wondering what to do.

“Hi” she said he face had on that fake smile again

“Hi” I replied and kept walking

“Wait” she said “my bag has split”

I stopped turned and looked at her and then said most sympathetically “Yeah I can see” Then I walked on

“Wait” she said again “I was wondering if you would stay with my shopping whilst I go in and get a bag”

“Wait?” I said vexed “wait? What like you made the bus wait?” Then I kissed my teeth Jamaican style.

She looked quite alarmed and started to babble some excuses “erm…erm…I couldn’t make the bus wait the drivers now-a-days…blah blah blah”

“Oh well” I replied and walked off and into my house

Now Angel being Angel wouldn’t have been able to sleep that night if I had just left her out there so I waited around 10 minutes then went back outside with a couple of spare bags and gave them to her, I didn’t say anything I just handed her the bags and walked back into my house.

I felt good though…lol

I need to start wearing make up!

On Tuesday I went on my first theatre review assignment to see 'Do you know where your daughter is?' written and directed by Angie Le Mar. You know the more I read and research about her the more I am impressed.

For those of you don’t know she is a British comedian, writer, director and actor. She used to do the Saturday Morning show on Choice FM and also she was on the Real McCoy on BBC, which was a comedy. Good Huh? She also made history in the west end with the first ever sell out show by a female black comedian. So she is doing well.

When I came out of the show on Tuesday, I was genuinely impressed (here is my review) however I was more impressed to read all about her school and see pictures on the wall of what she is doing for the children. She wanted to give something back so she set up 'The Angie Le Mar School of Expression' a stage school for children ages four and upwards. Fantastic isn't it? Helping those lost children especially the teenagers that would probably be hanging around on the streets bored and getting into mischief . That school gives them some goals and direction and a way of expressing themselves. What an inspirational woman!

Anyway I had to grab a picture with her and she, as always looks fantastic…I on the other hand I look like….well…all I can say is the time has come where I need to invest in make-up! Lol
